I would have preferred it to be at West Quay where it could run on a heat exchange system with the swimming pool (in the original plan)and be linked to the geo thermal plant.

I know it’s not really any easier to get there with Ikea opening soon, but it makes more economic sense.

economically i would agree with you, but you have to consider how impossibly hard this is going to be for people to get to when like you say ikea opens up, that would be also right next door to leisure world and the big retail estate there, it would be crazy for the rink to go there aswell, it had to be the rink or ikea, not both. but with that site out of the running i dont see what is wrong with the proposed site and also cant think of another site where it might be able to go, unless it was right out of the way on the outskirts of the city.

The Charlotte Place site seems a bit cramped to me even if it has underground parking. What has happened to the site at Millbrook that Ikea turned down. and does anyone know what’s happening with the Meridian site?

Meridian would be pretty good plenty of space for parking and could be rented out on match days for footie parking.

isnt meridian going to be turned into flats?? im sure i read somewhere that a deal had been agreed if not then i too think that would be a good site, and has the potential to liven that area of the city up somewhat as it is currently very drab down there.

where in millbrook was the ikea due to go? i cant even think of a site there that wouldve been suitable for either a ice rink or an ikea!isnt meridian going to be turned into flats?? im sure i read somewhere that a deal had been agreed if not then i too think that would be a good site, and has the potential to liven that area of the city up somewhat as it is currently very drab down there.

Why is this news? Everybody already knows that the Vikings back plans for an ice rink. They never shut up about it. As for Southy’s old “it’s in the wrong place” nonsense, remember that you yourself had no trouble at all travelling once a month all the way to Poole to go to an imaginary ice rink that didn’t even exist, so I fail to see why a real, actual ice rink in Southampton will pose any problems travel wiseWhy is this news?
